EMDR: EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an evidence-based, integrative form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences using Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) through the use of tapping or eye movements, in order to activate the brain's potential to process and heal a troubling memory. EMDR Therapy aims to achieve comprehensive treatment safely, effectively and efficiently, while maintaining client stability.

EMDR Therapy focuses on changing the way emotions, thoughts, or behaviors connected to distressing issues is stored. It is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain by activating the brains natural way to recover from traumatic memories and events. Although, traumatic experiences can be managed and resolved spontaneously, they may not be processed without help. We experience fight, flight, or freeze instincts as natural stress responses and at times when the distress from disturbing events remain, the upsetting images, thoughts, and emotions can take us back in the moment causing us to feel frozen as if we are reliving the moment. EMDR Therapy helps the brain reprocess the memory so normal healing can resume and the fight, flight, or freeze response is resolved when remembering the event.
